Phail.

And it doesn't come stock with Linux, you have to buy it separately.

And NO 3d apps on linux, Sony has the 3D core locked. It just seems like a stupid decision to me. The PS3 is more Locked Down, or controlled, than a PC. I wouldn't...

build you a backup amd or e21x0 rig for your everyday needs and sell your current rig...down the line if you ever want to start gaming on pc again you'll have new hardware to play with.

at this present moment in time your Rig is more power than a Playstation 3. The only time the PS3 will start to come in to its own is when they can config games to run of 7 cores.

Next year we have sockett 1366 being released you'll be able to have 8 cores and 16 threads in high end models.

Keep your rig it better mine. only diff is I do have a Q6600 which I use

Their fear is that it would be too easy to emulate the PS3 OS and play downloaded games, which is justified imo.

The PS3 has a decent Cell Processor but runs off of a GeForce 7800...

I don't get your logic? Every developer is complaining enough as it is trying to code for the entirely new architecture the Cell brought?

Keep your pc and get a good HDTV video card and play all your games in 1080p and higher through whatever high resolution monitor you have. COD4 is only 600p anyhow.

I say keep your rig because, while the PS3 is by far the most versatile console made to date as far as non-gaming options, it's still not a PC replacement--keep in mind also, that if something goes wrong with the PS3, it's probably going to be more expensive and time-consuming to fix--meaning if something goes wrong and you need to ship it in for repair/replacement, you'll be out of your "non-PC computer" for that amount of time--during which, it's probably going to be nice to have a real computer.

I say keep the computer, keep the PS3 (duh), and if you need more cash for paying off your bills, just do some random jobs to earn the extra cash (easier said than done, I know...).

EDIT--for more cash, you could part-out the valuable components you have and get some cheap-o ones for just basic computing--not sure how far that would take you though.

You mentioned something about recording. I'd say keep your rig for that purpose, downgrading will mean less tracks and less plug-ins that can run simultaneously. The only thing you won't need is the video card which you probably won't get much for anyhow.

On the gaming side, If your fine with playing those said games on the PS3 then start thinking about optimizing your PC for music. You already have good hardware for it. The only thing you might need is another hard drive, an 80 or 120 GB one for all your recording software. Use your 250 GB to store all your recordings/samples/ect. I wouldn't sell it if your serious about recording.

As far as I know, YDL is open source. You just download it. Thats what I did.

Another thought I had had was this:

- Sell E8400, get E2180 or E2160
- Sell DA750, get Cheaper PSU (still modular)
- Sell x1950XTX, get different Video card (8600 GT or something less power-consuming)

Then, I would hopefully have a couple hundred dollars to use for bills and whatnot. And this way, I still have good RAM, and a Motherboard capable of upgrades some day down the road, without having to stay on the bleeding edge of tech.

And about odd jobs, I'm working 40 hour weeks right now, so I'm making decent money, just the faster I can pay it all off, the better.
