Actually your statement has already been disproven according to the latest test done by extreme tech. Vista is about the same performance wise as XP. The gaming performance issues when vista first came out was driver related, not OS related.

Wrong.

As of the release of Service Pack 1, Windows Vista performs better in games than Windows XP.

This Thread

EDIT: Haha, Dman you beat me to it.

Awww, you're probably just resentful because it's a lot harder to pirate (steal) a copy of Vista than XP. Sad.

yeah, must be a user error.

I don't have any problems in xp.

I do in vista.

Like I keep saying, if I could get the lag in vista to go away, I would be on it in a heartbeat.

my ping is 20-60 ms higher in games and spikes like crazy in vista and i've disabled everything you can disable, including file sharing and network searching services.

I don't think i'm clueless, nor are others that dislike vista.

I'm a serious gamer, and lag isn't a good thing. Which is the mean reason I dislike the OS. Maybe it doesn't effect the word processing you do, or your msn chat conversations, but it certainly affects my game.

If you need the eye candy, go for vista.

XP has all the functionality and does everything vista can do, minus the performance hit.

Everybody knows that when you bench / game in vista that you lose fps / get lower 3dmarks etc..

I don't know what you kids think is so great about vista.

I for one can barely see the difference between dx9 and dx10 and I think building an OS exclusive to dx10 was a terrible way to market vista. It sucked a year ago, and it still does today.

Sure I like using vista on my laptop. But as far as gaming on my desktop, i'm in XP 100% of the time.

Has anyone tried DirectX 10 for XP??? ive heard there are ways to get this done.

uh huh.....

No problems for me or any one I know.

I wouldnt exactly call that a serious issue, sounds like it could easily be an issue with your connection.

No there isn't, the only reason this works on some games is because they are direct X 9 based, but use DX10 extensions. There is no way to emulate DX10 on XP as of yet.

I'd like to just say a few things here.

First off, I've been running Vista 64 bit for a year and a half without any issues (except for a few minor driver issues in the beggining). It works flawlessly for me and I love it.

With that said, you can't compare Windows XP (now with SP3) to Windows Vista (SP1 just came out). Take a look back at Windows XP SP1. It was a nightmare, with so many bugs and glitches it wasn't even funny. It wasn't until SP2 came out that it was streamlined and efficient. I'm really tired of hearing all these XP lovers bash Vista. How many Windows Updates have come out for XP since it was released? HUNDREDS!!
