2x 9800GTX vs 9800GX2

so 9800GTX's have dropped to $199 already and gx2's are about $420... how much better will two gtx's in SLI be over a single gx2 if I want to play on a 42 inch LCD?

seems like a given, but I just want some opinions

Probably a 9800GX2 then go Quad-SLI if you really need it

I like my two 9800GTX's a lot. In fact I may consider not stepping up the dual GTX280's as these are fine for 1680 * 1050.

also, when you do SLI, both cards run at the same speed, being the speed of the lowest clocked card right? so if you get a OC'd edition and a stock edition, both will run at stock?

I'm getting a 2nd 9800GTX simply because I already have one. I have read that SLI sets run better on the larger screens like a 42" and 50" etc.
2 GX2's are a fair amount of money.

Screen size is not the problem. Question is what resolution does your screen support. A 42" can be 720p or 1080p.

SLI is great if you are running some pretty high resolution, but if not, you are better off not dealing with the hassle.

SLI requires more space inside the case, it produces more heat, draws more power, requires an SLI motherboard which have been shown to be less stable when overclocking, there can be, at times, the annoying effect caused by the nature of SLI itself where during the swapping of frames between GPU's there's some slight lag, which can show up as less-than-smooth gameplay (at times that is. Some people report this, some don't and it is also depending on the game).

It is always best to go with one strong video card rather than 2 lesser, unless you are using some really high resolution.
