Thread Starter
im building a new desktop for a friend who is going to be using it for mostly video editing. it needs to have a 24" monitor, speakers and mouse/keyboard in the price. im going to be picking up the parts from memory express so if you guys could build me a system for under $1500 with the system configurator on this website it would be much appreciated.

Why limit yourself to memoryexpress.com?

ADDED: Nevermind, they are probably close to you and seem to have decent prices.

that looks good, but he's on a tight budget and he needs keyboard/mouse, speakers and he is going to buy leopard for it.
this is what i have come up with:

antec 900

intel C2D E8400

asus p5n-d

OCZ 4gb pc2-6400

hitachi 500gb HDD

lg super multi drive

XFX 8800GT alpha dog edition

ST lab firewire adapter

Corsair TX 650 watt PSU

Samsung Syncmaster 245b

and some logitech speakers, keyboard and mouse.

this all comes to $1525, just about the perfect price. what do you think about it?

You could also save money on the PSU from what has been linked above:
OCZ 700W GameXStream Power Supply w/ Quad +12V
http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product...12599(ME).aspx

I doubt you would really need over 700W. 600 would actually probably do just fine since your friend wont be going SLI (even if he was, 700 would still do you well...and he actually might if he gets a 1080P screen). The EVGA Mobo is real nice as well. Also, I would go with EVGA GPU instead of XFX. The little extra is worth it just incase your friend wanted to use the upgrade program. Honsetly though, if he didn't want to upgrade within the next three months and he's sure of it...XFX will do him just fine.

As for the rest of the builds listed above, both look fine. Well, I just have a note on the keyboard and mouse: Keyboard: Saitek Eclipse--Mouse: Logitech MX518. They are both cheap and very good products. Mine have lasted me for nearly three years now, I think.

I have bought both XFX and EVGA GPUs and both companies manufacture great cards.

Best of luck!

this is what i have come up with:
Are you talking about OSX? If you are, you can't buy it. It only comes with Apple computers.
well he could... but thats against the law and talking about it is against the TOS

I would just stick with XP unless there is a program on OSX you have to have then just buy a mac instead. Then you dont have to worry about legality's and hacked software.

and the previous builds look nice

Actually, if he is going to want to video edit all the time with this machine you will probably want to concentrate a bit more on the DISK SUBSYSTEM and use the QUAD core processor.

(You might even want to have two or more hard drives instead of one.)
