You clearly dont understand much then. There was a program on TV last night in the UK about Microsoft and Bill Gates

He went to harvard and dropped out. Created a code based OS called MS-DOS. Got the major companies such as IBM etc to use his OS. He sold it to a few companies for $50.

Sir Alan Sugar who owned Amstrad was all about hardware. If he couldn't touch it he wouldnt pay for it. Amstrad was also the leader computer manufactor, Gates sold DOS to amstrad and it took off. It got on almost every computer out there.

He then went on to his dream. To get a PC in every home. What did he do? Exactally that. He created every version of Windows, drove it into the mass market, became to market leader and pretty much dominated the OS market.

He realised that people need something graphical to work with. he put all his money into it and released Windows with a GUI. That took off exceptionally fast, why? Because software is free to make. Hundreds of thousands of other companies started creating software and sold it, they made it for MS since it was the market leader. It became the most popular OS and raked in $5mill a day profit for Gates. he then thought, hey. Why do we need to do all these calculation and letters on paper, and they released Office. it pretty much killed Lotus.

Granted in the past 5 years, not a great deal has happened. They came out with XP which you will probably find on every system if it isnt running vista or osx or linux. They also created the Zune, Surface. They do alot more than you think. Hell, they even made there on games console and they made there own PCB for the graphics card. I know Sony do a much better job at it and have beeen doing for years and the PS3 would be where it is now even if mircosoft DIDNT release the 360.

Now, if that isn't revolutionrey (sp?) then I dont know what is. Coz, I doubt you would be sitting here on Overclock.net if it wasn't for Microsoft

you just got quoted by an MS fanboy.

Google is awesome though. they can take over the world all they want.

I think that what he ment by not doing anything is not creating a new product, yea the search algorithems are imroving daily.. but that is still 1 product, as he said Gmail is another, quality of a product doesnt translate normally into more profit after it's initial release, not always but thats the case usually, and I believe that those are the terms that he was referring to.....

Vista, Linux and XP are not the only OSes out there. (Linux isn't an OS at all, actually, GNU/Linux is, but I digress) Mac OSX, BSD variants, etc... There are loads out there.

Besides that, M$ have done very little innovative. The only time they look like they are is when they do their 'Expand, Embrace, Extinguish' routine.

The fact is M$ care about one thing and on thing only: keeping their monopoly. They'll choose locking in the user over innovation any day of the week. And that is the only reason it's here today.

Bill Gates is a genius of a businessman, don't get me wrong, but M$ is a monolith of a company which is on the way down because they tighter they squeeze, the more computers will slip through their fingers.

That's it. Who would ever care about all that stuff? Sheesh, he says they haven't moved forward in five freaking years...I can't even fabricate a lie on that scale.

lol he didn't realize that. Someone else did. THEN he realized that. Gates was just a better businessman, not a better inventor.

How many years ago? Over 15.

NOW you're answering my question. And you just proved me right. You could have cut the crap and just simply went straight here

Actually, I think m$ is doing a much better job right now. Game console - good point. Any others?

revolutionary*...

Anyway, you mentioned one single thing. I wouldn't be sitting here on OCN if it wasn't for the game console? I find that strange since I am neither using a game console nor a microsoft product to access this site...

Despite your view of Microsoft, people respected Bill Gates for the technical edge he had. He wrote Qbasic, which a lot of programmers like myself started programming with. With Steve Ballmer it's the complete opposite, he has little to no technical knowledge. Majority of the time he has no idea what he's talking about, which is why he'll lead Microsoft to it's doom.

It was either CentOS or FreeBSD or some BSD variant. If it's CentOS, it's Linux, if it's FreeBSD or a BSD variant, it's UNIX.

Who told you that OCN runs off of windows?
