Help please Q6600

Thread Starter
I don't know s"#$% about overclocking but I want to start getting it. I have a Striker Extreme 680i SLI and a Q6600. So far the only thing I did was changing from 1066 to 1346, but I don't know the point of the multiplier, the correct voltages and stuff like that. Does anyone here please help me understand and get a good cpu overclocking? My mem's are Kingston Hyper DDR26400 low latency... they work factory setting at 4-4-4-12-2T 2.0v. I've tried changing the settings to 4-4-4-8-2-T 2,025V and it didn't quite work. I get stumped when I see guys of the forum talking about the references of the CPU and memories and when I to anythink out of the ordinary the PC won't boot. What am I doing wrong? Would anyone like guide me through the Extreme Tweaker on the BIOS and tell what to do correctly??

My system is:

That board and a quad don't work well together. Here's a post that explains it. Read ericeod's Post #9

Yep... he wont get a great overclock with that MOBO/CPU combo but he should beable to get 2.8GHz - 3GHz with a bit of luck ... its still better than 2.4Ghz

So what CPU would you suggest to marry my mobo perfectly?? a QX??
BTW, after the BIOS 1504 update my mobo died... completely. I've tried everything... really. Asus admited that a first version of the 1504 was bad so as it's still on the warranty status I'm going to send it RMA. As they are taking between 3 to 5 weeks returning I was thinking of buying a new Striker to continue using the pc and then sell the new one they're gonna send me.

I've considered buying a different one, but then I thought I had to format the pc ...

Which motherboard would you recommend?

Striker II Extreme
Striker II Formula
Striker II NSE
P5Q Deluxe
P5Q3 Deluxe
Rampage Formula
Maximus Extreme
Maximus Formula (Special Edition)

Anyone?

I was thinking of using SLI, but then I am first a designer, then a pilot enthusiast then a gamer...
I use two monitors for FSX and it makes all the difference. SLI is not compatible with two monitors and NVIDIA says that they're not sure if it ever will be 'cause it's not "worth it".
Putting things like this for me is the same having a SLI or Crossfire motherboard 'cause I won't use two graphics cards on a short term, may in the future and by then my watercooled 8800GTX XXX most probably is gonna be swapped.

So if you think intel chipset is better than the nvidia one please tell me!

Thanks
