First build soon.

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I am somewhat new to building my own computers and wanted to get some feedback on the parts I have picked out. This is what I have so far.

CPU: Q6600 or E8400 (Still not sure on this one)
GPU: EVGA 9800GTX (Plan to SLI at some point)
Mobo: EVGA 780I
RAM: 2x2GB OCZ Reaper at 800Mhz
Hard Drive: Western Digital Raptor 150GB
Power Supply: Corsair 750W or PC Power and Cooling 750W
CPU Fan: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7
CD ROM: Samsung 20x DVD Burner
OS: Vista Home Premium 64bit
Case: Antec Twelve Hundred

It will be mostly for gaming. Also any little mistakes I should look for when putting it all together?

GPU: I would wait for benches on the HD 4000 series before you make your final decision
RAM: Try G.skill 2x2GB 1000MHz for $85 on newegg.
CPU Cooler: Try teh Tuniq Tower or TRUE

Take a look at this memory (2x2 4gb kit) and this heatsink. Both are very good budget options and provide excellent performance.

If it's mostly for gaming I'd go with the E8400 and OC like no other. I also agree with mortimer and would wait before you get the 9800GTX because the HD4xxx series just is coming out and the 9800GTX+ is coming out and is supposed to be in the same price range as a normal 9800GTX. It runs cooler and faster though. Just my 2 cents.

Definitely hold off on the 9800GTX - they're dropping to $200 soon, and most benchmarks of the HD4850 cards show them performing nearly as well or better than the 9800GTX (it's back-and-forth). I'd probably scrap SLI as well, nForce chipsets just aren't what they used to be like back in the nForce 4 days. Intel's chipsets are cooler, generally overclock as well or better, and are just a more pleasant experience. I second the Xigmatek as well, it's definitely an improvement over the Freezer 7 Pro. Maybe if it was $20 again like it used to be I'd recommend it, but given its current price, it's just not worth it.

Oh, and that case is entirely too pricey considering what it offers. I'd pick up a nice Lian-Li for that price. And unless you know you're not a space hog, I'd definitely look into getting a 7200RPM backup drive, somewhere between 250-500GB.
