[FUD] 9800GTX+ has a 55nm chip

G92 shrinked edition

Nvidia finally made it to 55nm, and this happened only seven or eight months after ATI did it. The new G92 is now significantly slower and Nvidia can clock it faster.

The card works at over 730MHz and this should be enough to challenge HD 4850 performance and probably outrun even the HD 4870 cards.

The Geforce 9800 GTX+ itself will come with two six-pin power connectors and the total available power for the card will get to 225W.

After this card comes in game, Geforce 9800GTX will severely drop in price and Nvidia will try to swap it with 9800GTX+ cards as soon as possible, and all people who got 9800GTX in last few weeks won’t have happy faces. Well, that’s life.

Looks awesome. I am waiting to see which cards end up playing out the better deal. I want either this or the 4870. We'll see what happens.

Didn't Legitreviews, or LegionHardware already confirm and test a 55nm GTX+? Fud seems a bit late to the party with the news. Outrun the 4870? At high resolutions and AA enabled, the 4850 matches or gets within striking distance of a GTX+.

I don't like the fact that this chip is on 55nm but still needs 225W, I thought the 55nm refreshes were supposed to drastically reduce power consumption, if these results hold true that 55nm GTX280 might not be what we were thinking.

it doesn't really need 225W..it's more for the headroom with overclocking. I forget which review site did it, but they measured the power draw of the GTX+, and it was only as much as the 4850 under load. Higher at idle, but lower than the GTX at load.

Errm, if the 9800gtx+ beats a 4870, then its most likely gunna beat a gtx260. And be cheaper. LOL

Dear god nvidia are messed up. G92 is a curse I tell you.

I agree with you. The GTX+ should be a litter bit slower than the 4870, but faster than the 4850 meaning that Nvidia is stuck in the middle.
4870
98GTX+
4850 ~ 98GTX
At least that is how it seems the card well be.
