Okay, got that out of the way.

Now, I know that amplifying these headphones isn't exactly the BEST thing I can do. However I HAVE to have a headset with a microphone on it...and these fit the bill.

I'm a half-audiophile, in the sense that I like my sound to be clean and sound nice, but I just don't have the money to be a full out audiophile. I want to amplify $17 headphones because I want them to be a little bit cleaner, and I DEFINITELY want them to be louder for when I'm gaming. There's nothing at all wrong with that.

My fiance uses the EXACT same headphones running off her Sharp 300w bookshelf system. Hence another reason I want mine amplified. Hers REALLY DO in fact sound better and cleaner (and louder obviously). I want that effect, but without spending $375 on a Sharp Bookshelf system to match hers, lol. Especially since I've got a half decent home theater system hooked up to my own.

So in conclusion here:
If you don't have something nice to say, then please don't say it. I KNOW that amplifying $17 WalMart Special headphones isn't the best thing to do. However I'm poor and I cannot AFFORD the best thing to do. So I'm trying to make up for it however I can.

And I would LIKE a nice alternative that will keep my sound quality...just amplify it. I REALLY don't see anything stupid about that.

Thank you for reading, and thanks to those that have actually contributed to my cause . Much appreciated.
What we're saying is that buying a better headset will be much better for your money than throwing an amp under a $17 headset. We're trying to prevent you from throwing money away. Look into the lower end of Sennheiser's PC series of headsets, they'll be about the same price as an amp and I'm fairly certain it'll sound better.

And as others have said, amps aren't there to make things louder. They're there to make things better, but there's only so much you can do with a $17 headset.

Like Chipp said before, upgrade your headphones and buy a Zalman clip-on mic before bothering with an amp. I'm not really understanding how you don't have enough money to upgrade your headphones but are willing to buy an amp. In the $20-30 range Sennheiser HD201's are quite a good pair (google Headroom to find them since they've been discontinued and can't be found so easily now). In the $50-60 range, AKG K81DJ's and Grado SR60's are both very good.

Without a doubt all of these headphones unamped are going to sound far superior to your current headset amped.

I COMPLETELY understand you there. I do know what amps are for....I install every car audio system that I've ever owned myself, and I do work for family and friends as well...never had a complaint yet. I understand what amplifiers are there for.

I never once said I was looking to buy right now at this moment. I DON'T have the money right now. I work 3 days a week on minimum wage trying to support two people. Trust me...that ain't easy living, especially when you are ALWAYS wanting to buy new computer toys .

NOW...

I understand FULLY that an amp is not actually designed to make things exactly louder...but to improve clarity. I know this. But the onboard outputs on this Live! 5.1 card, or even my onboard, just DON'T give me enough volume. So if I were to spend money on a nicer set of headphones....well I would have WASTED my money there. I say that because, yes they'll sound "nicer". But I only want them to be a little bit louder so I can hear my enemies come up on me when I'm in game. That's all I'm after is like maybe 6dB more or so (that is a 100% ROUGH guess). And I'm 100% sure that a headphone amp will do what I'm asking. And then later on when I have another $30 ish to blow, I can buy a better set of cans, and I'll already have an amp to push them.
