Why wont my E6850 OC?

Hi.. im using a stock cooler, my Core1 Temp idle is 18-22c and same with core2. Overall CPU temp is 24c idle, and about 40 at load in games, though on OCCD or whatever that program is called, it gets around 60-68c after an hour.

Anyway i went into my IP35's overclocking settings, the multiplier could only go x9(i thought these had unlocked multiplier?) and it was already on x9. So i raised FSB from 333 to 360 or something and got around 3.2ghz but it does not seem stable..

The heat is fine, it barely moves.. but when playing games and stuff, sometimes it freezes and just does not feel as stable as it was.

Im thinking it might be because of my RAM? i hear that effects it. anyway i have some cheap 20$ 1gb corsair value select DDR2 667 @ 333mhz 5-5-5-15

Is it because my ram cant handle a overclock much from raising the FSB? id use the multiplier except not sure how to as it does not go past x9. Is that where i gotta change voltages to get more?

Help please, thanks.

1.3 - 1.4v max should get you to 3.6ghz if your chip has a low TDP (google this if you want to know more about it)

When you up the FSB on your chip, your ram speeds go with it. There are memory divider settings to cut the speed of your ram, so when you OC the chip, your ram speed will float somewhere around its rated speed.

this chip has a locked multi. no higher than 9x. the QX6xx or X6xxx are the unlocked chips, and cost a lot more...

With your board, you should be able to hit 400fsb, if you have a good chip. You do NOT want to up your chip voltage any more than 1.3 with a stock cooler... ~1.4v and up, you want to get some sort of after market air/water setup...

I would say it's your RAM. At 360 FSB, what speed is your RAM running at? If its linked at a 1:1 ratio, you may be pushing it with your value ram. Get some quality DDR2 800-1066 RAM and you should be able to hit at least 3.4ghz.
