Noob question! What is SLACR? - Page 2

SLACR is the Intel Spec number of the chip.

from Intel: sSpec Number: Also known as specification number. A five character string (SL7AA, SL8VN, etc.) that is printed on the processor, and used to identify the processor. By knowing the processor's sSpec Number, you can find out the processor's core speed, cache size and speed, core voltage, maximum operating temperature and so on.

by the way, the G0 indicates the revision (stepping of the chip). For example my E2160 is an M0, SLA8Z chip, which is newer and cooler than the L2 revision...

as for why G0s are such good clockers, they have a higher thermal threshold (withstands hotter temps) as well as i think a lower VID (voltage ID) (uses less volts by default) and runs cooler (i don't need to explain that one). that is why it clocks better than the B3 stepping of the Q6600. E6750s are also iirc G0 chips and good clockers. AFAIK, they ought to be still in production: the B3's would be the ones you'd struggle to find. i'm pretty sure the Q6600 is being made, so...

Prime 95 (like ORTHOS) is a program used to test the stability of an overclocked system. usually 8 hours without failure is considered stable. Some like 10, 12, 16, or even 24 hours...

CoreTemp is a program used to check the temperature of your processor.

for these programs, go to the downloads section of the site.

warning: if you are new to OCing, you best be sure you know what you are doing before you start, else you can kill your hardware, and it might be difficult to RMA if they find out what you were doing... PM or post if you need help - we're a friendly bunch . oh, and my bro lives in Melbourne
