Bump;
I just read a review that says the 4870 is slightly less performance than the GTX 280 but at half the price, now I'm just hoping that Nvidia will massively reduce all prices!

They've already had TWO price cuts. There will be more by August.

Can you give me the original prices and each consecutive bump?

The original prices were 650 and 449 respectively. I know the latest drop was 90 and 50 respectively, I'm not sure what the first one was, I can look it up though

The first drop was $100 for both. The retail price on Newegg is now 499 and 299 respectively.

For the GTX 280???

Ok they've gone down a bit more on the Aussie sites.

I expect it to go down further when the 4870x2 comes out... then I might get the 55nm version.

There is also something about a GT200b, a 55nm version of GT200.

Choices, choices, choices, but this time it's all for the better. (At least for consumers)

So now it seems that the question is:

CPU or Graphics upgrade?

lol, Nvidia are letting ATI move before countering with a better card.
LAWL Nvidia are not letting ATI do anything. Nvidia was caught with its pants down. They sat there being way too big headed and then anticipated the 4000 series to be on par or poorer comapred to there new generation. They got it horribly wrong and underestimated ATI.

Nvidia got served this round lol

I think NVidia has ended GT200 manufacturing. The 55nm revision won't come out until after September and will still be slower than the HD4870x2.

I know... but I'm caught because I have an Nvidia chipset which would have been a good choice 1/2 a year ago.

I don't know whether to be happy or sad... happy that the Nvidia actually has competition or sad that the 55nm won't come out until after Sept and still be slower...
