Budget AM2+ upgrade?

Thread Starter
Allright, i think i am finally looking to replace my 939 rig with AM2+, and figured I's as u guys about what components seem to be holding up well and what is a good deal. What I'm looking for is a Phenom chip, a mobo, and probably 2GB ddr2 memory all for under $300. I havent been following hardware trends lately as much as i did when i build the 939, so looking for some advice.

The OCing Phenom of choice is the 9850 Black Edition and its about $240 so thts out of this picture.
The B3 stepping is where you should look when buying a new Phenom though... not the B2 stepping.

A constant in cost the RAM About $50 for 2x1G
MB and Phenom for $250... that is going to take some digging.

9550 $195 (note, the Phenoms with the xx50 part # are B3 stepping)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103251

MB mATX A2+ $89.99 a good OCing mATX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128090
MB ATX AM2+$79.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138102

So basically, for a reasonable OCer MB and Phenom you going to have to spend a bit more than $300

YOU could cut the costs with a Phenom Tri Core

Don't feel bad, I had to check before I typed... I'm still a bit out of it with the Phenoms still.

Yes, i am interested in the tri-cores, just wondering what people's experience with them was. Also why no 1066 ram? Don't phenom's support 1066?

And I think I like that 790x MSI board so far...not much more $$ than the the lower end ones, and i'd like to be able to do cf down the road.

The tri-core is 25% less than the quad cores. (LOL, obv) Personally, I'd rather go the quad route since there really isn't THAT much of a difference in price.
