Your Thoughts on S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Page 4

I bit boring at the start but once you meet more factions and get a grip of the story it gets more and more interesting.

The first part is slow, but it's really fun once you get into it. When I first played the game without a patch in XP it crashed quite often......but I have never had a crash in Vista x64 since some of the later patches (1.3 and up.) It's either my luck, the patches, or Vista x64 I guess......
The lighting effects on this game are amazing too...........

Remember the first time you come across a bloodsucker? I peed a little

STALKER is the greatest game ever. I don't think there is a single game I've spent more hours on, with the possible exception of Dungeon Siege 2. I've played every patch at least once, some of them 2 or 3 times. I played almost all of it with the realism mod, and I'm currently playing it again with the OL2 mod, almost done.

The beginning is tough due to the crappy weapons, and even a little boring I suppose, story-wise, but once you get to the agroprom underground and get the fast-shooting AK in strelok's hideout, things start to get pretty dang fun.

HINT: once you go to the Garbage, you should ignore all else and look at the map and find your way over to the Dark Valley. Once there you want to help Bullet rescue his buddy from the bandits, the reward is a scope for the AK ... as well as an actual AK (although it's typically beat-up). These are pretty key, as you will soon find out. Once you have the scope, you can go ahead and help Bes and Seriy then head over to rescue Mole, grab the military docs, etc. Once you get the docs you can go to the Bar, and from then on the game is REALLY fun ...

Also, make SURE you follow all the quests in the "Kill Strelok" storyline (make frequent MANUAL save games as well, do NOT rely on quicksave!) so that you can get to the 'real' ending, which extends the game by about an hour at least. One very important one is the task to Find The Guide, which you'll receive while on the Lab X16 mission.

Yeah, STALKER is freaking awesome... Believe me, I've played A TON of shooter type games in my day, and Stalker, for all it's little flaws and occasional bugs, is the most immersive and replayable game I've ever come across.

I was waiting so long for it to come out, when it did, I wasn't so impressed. The things I thought I was going to like about it; Open game play/RPG element ,are the things that ended up turning me off. To me the game needed to be a little more linear as I ended up getting lost a little in the story and than didn't care what I was doing. The gunfights were great, they were challenging cause it could be one shot and done. It is immersive and the weather system is great. I think Stalker2: Clear Sky may be better. At least the bugs should be worked out.

The first time Sid gives you a mission to steal docs from the military base, you have to go to the base in the Agroprom area. This is prior to the x-18 lab mission, which you get from Barkeep after getting the agroprom military docs.

AFTER you do the lab x-18 mission and return to see sidorovich ... if you talk to him then, he will give you the mission to steal the docs from the Cordon (first area) military base.

In any case, it's a worthless mission anyway (you get like 2000RU for your efforts). Frankly I would imagine, though I've never tried, that you'd be able to just instantly complete the mission once he gave it to you, since you'd already have the Cordon base documents on hand.

I always takeout the military base very soon after starting the game, a decent bit of goodies in there, not to mention it's just a fun fight.

The first part of the game really isn't that hard, or slow. A sawed off shotgun will hold you over till you find a nice rifle. You can get the 5.56mm Thunder-S14 less than 30 minutes into the game (run to the garbage, kill the duty gate guards, enter rostok, go back to garbage, kill the two guards that respawn, one should have the gun). I was still using that gun in Prypiat. This is all quite do able with some well placed grenades and the shotgun, even on master dificulty (the only way to play).
