well, the COD4 chppines issue popped up again. It just won't maintain a steady framerate. For reference, this doesn't happen in Crysis, and I get ~30FPS in crysis maxed (dx10) no AA @1280x1024

Even if I turn the graphics down, it persists in COD4, this problem of rampant choppiness.

I'm downloading SP1 as I type, but wonder if there are any other things I could try to help my in game performance, or to fix this problem.

I've already tried everything I did last time, running a virus/spyware scan now, but I've barely used the internet on this new rig.

All help appreciated...

Read this in another thread,no link to it's origin. If true you might want to uninstall the card and drivers and install SP1 then try again with the hot fix drivers.

alright, that sounds like a plan...

uh, how exactly do i go about uninstalling the 8.6 drivers?

I've only dealt with nvidia before, and never really did then either.

Thanks for the quick response james

Just go to Add Remove programs and uninstall it their. Then run driver cleaner pro in safe mode, also run the driver.cab tool.Boot to normal then install SP1 then the card and hot fix drivers.I always like to shut down all unnecessary programs while doing this.

OK thanks,

Now this is gonna sound REALLY noob:

I know that I can get into safe mode when, for example, there's an improper shutdown. How do I boot into safe mode without having to incite an improper shutdown?

And what's this "driver.cabtool"? And how do I run it?

On another note, could the choppiness simply be the cause of a bad install? I purchased COD4 of steam, and made a backup to a dvd when i wiped my hard drive. Then I installed it on my new hard drive. I also backed up my profile. Could that have anything to do with it? Could the profile have in memory the fact that I used an nvidia card, and is now having issues with an ATI card?

Another thing: I can't start a singleplayer game in COD4 either. It tries to start loading the level, then freezes. The only way out is Task Manager>End Process. Should I just try and reinstall COD4. Of course, this means re-downloading it, seeing as the install on the DVD is some how busted. Thoughts?

Also, Crysis performance has been decreasing. WHAT IS GOING ON?

Like I said, I'm downloading SP1 as I type, but it'll be another hour or so (~750mb file).

I will do all these driver wiping things, and hope they'll help.

Thanks again...

EDIT: I fixed my performance problem. Apparently an instance of COD4 was running in the background hogging up lots of CPU power. I DIDN'T fix my COD4 singleplayer problem. It still won't load. Any help on that would be nice. Thanks for the support.
