PS3, 46" LCD and Composite -- Bad?

Thread Starter
Does anyone know if HDMI will look a lot better (I mean, SIGNIFICANT difference) from composite cables on this set-up:

- PS3 40GB
- Composite cables (RCA red, yellow, white)
- Sharp 46" LCD 720p

?

Right now it looks like a PS2 game from about 8-10ft away. I was hoping that maybe an HDMI cable would change that but not sure if the TV is the problem or not.

I've been researching, but several reviews have reported very little differences between a 720p and 1080p. I like the big screen, but if the HDMI doesn't help, I'd rather go to a 32" Samsung or Sony 720p.

Some advice/suggestions would be awesome!

Yes. Significant. You will notice the difference... Big time.

The composite cables aren't outputting in 720p. More like 480i I think. The PS3 has the capability to output in 1080p. As long as the game supports it. And the difference between 720, and 1080 depends on the size of the TV. Usually 50" and up you will notice. Smaller, no.

HDMI will blow the composites out of the water. I've done both, and yes, there's a difference.

is the tv 1080p.. or even if it is 720p it shouldn't look like a ps2 game with a composite cable. You could try using hdmi but there won't be a huge difference

Edit: Composite is the one with the green, blue and red cables right.

component = up to 1080i
HDMI = up to 1080p and beyond

Ooops just searched google. I thought you was talking about component.
You will see a huge difference but the game still shouldn't look like a ps2 game

Ok, so I should see a difference like night and day? -- Crisp, better color, graphics improvement?

If so, is it basically: anything hooked up to an HD tv that's still using composite is going to look just like a regular SDTV?

I ordered a $6 buck 6ft HDMI cable off of ebay--hope it's as good as the one's they sell in the stores.

composite maxes out on 480p and won't go higher for some reason. Once you go HDMI it will work correctly
