I used to do this to my 7600GT, never experienced something qquite like this, though.
I put an amount that was slightly transparent, enabling me to just make out the nvidia logo on the Die, and I'm just plopping down the heatsink, then flipping it and turning the screws until I meet some resistance.
I'm going to take this apart again. I'm thinking that the reason XFX put so much on is because they do not meet properly in the first place. I will see if that is the case.
I took it apart, and I've found that that is indeed the case. Only the bottom left of the die gets any contact with the heatsink, so I believe I've got to put a glob in the middle and spread it a little bit. I'm going to be a bit more liberal this time.Edited by Pap3r - 6/21/08 at 10:21pm
