there was a small leak coming out of that side but it's was where the other hole was. it's possible the screw got wet then. going to find some replacement screws now.

If you cant find any the right size I'd just use a little oil on the old ones and a paper towel to clean them up a little...

Snug them down well, but be careful not to over-tighten them or you could crack out your plexi cover...

thanks again ira-k and all others for any help with this. i still can't figure out what caused all that gunk in fittings the first time. i guess i'll just have to hook everything back up again run the loop for a lil while and make sure it's all out before i go and install it on my computer.

I don't know why they use the steel screws on those, but you can find the exact same screw in stainless. I was just at my local hardware home improvement center and found all sorts of stainless M3 and M4 screws of all lengths in that panhead style. I actually was looking for longer screws for a new chipset block top I was making, but regardless stainless panheads in metric and english of all sizes exist.

The barbs should be steel, but I wouldn't be suprised if those screws arn't though. Those could very well be steel and steel that's actually rusting there.

martin,
any idea what that was on the compression fittings? the fittings are nickel plated brass (koolance ones) i also found a lot of that gunk between the mcmaster reducer and the barb attached to the radiator. i can't remember if there was more on the one that was the outlet or not. it looks like rust to me but i can't tell where it would come from.

well i think if like what martin said thats not stainless but regular steel and its rusting, then its affecting the rest of your build too.

ITT: Watercooling nightmares.

The chromed barbs might just be attracting the rust which is why it's so obvious around them. The true culprit is definitely those dang screws.

the thing is the screws weren't like that about a week ago when i first had all that gunk on the compression fittings. the pics i took of the gpu block i just noticed today when i was going to setup the loop again. this was after letting it sit for a week in the box that it became like this. all my barbs looked like the first pic and the insides of them had that stuff on it too. lets just say it was from the screws would that much rust form in the 2-3 hours i had the loop setup. the screws are outside the o ring
