1080P TV as monitor

Thread Starter
Due to my disliking most monitors in existence and not wanting to cough up 1k for a monitor to satisfy me, I am now curious about TV as monitors.

I saw these in the store today,

Sony Bravia - KDL32XBR6
Panasonic 32LZ800
Toshiba - 32RV530U
LG 37LG50 (huge I know, but the picture was prettyful in the store)
There was also a pretty Samsung 37" 1080P, but no clue what the model number was. Might be "LN37A550" and it was 1150 if that helps determine.

Do those 37"ers have a 32" version?

Anyone used any of these and can share some advice? Would really like PIP so I can run my game and watch TV at the same time.

Thanks.

They can not do the high resolution that Monitors need and they are not good for sitting close to. They can be used for HTPC because they are mostly used for movies.

Uhmmm, well a lot of people use them, so... not sure how accurate that is. Need it for gaming/TV watching. Do everything else on my laptop.

SORRY for the hijacking, but i have a 26" LCD TV(used as monitor) and i'm wondering if it's really bad for my view to stay close to the TV.
EDIT:it's awesome for gaming/TV/movies.

How are the models I posted?

Not into 720p, resolution isn't high enough for monitor use.

FoxSmash, they make 26" monitors so I wouldn't worry.

Desk if I use a TV is 2.5 feet deep.

My experience with 720p tv's as monitors is less than stellar. I have one currently and I don't like it at all hooked to my laptop so 1080p is a must.

I have a 32" generic monitor which runs at 1366x768 and I sit right in front of it. I don't find I need those high resolutions, just turn on cleartype and AA in games and your all good!
