Well, I am used to 1680 x 1050 on a 17" screen. I don't want a 720p, I already have one.

No. I want a monitor.

I already have a 720p TV in the living room, 42" plasma. It is not good for a monitor no matter the distance (at least for me) and what would my bf watch?

Anyone have any info on these TV's I listed??

Monitors have higher resolutions than TV's. I would much rather use a monitor as a TV than a TV as a monitor...

*sigh* What is it with people lately? Why do you respond if you don't answer the question?

I'm not paying 1500$ for a 30" monitor, the supposed gains aren't worth it nor noticeable to me.

So if one wanted to use an HDTV for a monitor too it would have to be 1080P? (I already figured this but needed clarification)

Now in terms of picture quality won't LCD HDTVs have the same (Or lesser) quality as an LCD Monitor?

I was reading Plasma's are a bit better but seem to have more drawbacks like power drain/radiation/image burn-in on the screen

why drop 1000 on a tv when you can get a killer 28" monitor for cheaper...

You can't use a plasma as a monitor due to burn in overall. If you leave the task bar on a plasma for 12 hours, it's probably going to be there forever. If they made plasma monitors I would be the first one to buy them lol.

No, you can't get a killer 28" monitor for cheaper. Name me one, ONE, 24-28" LCD monitor for under 800$ that is IPS, doesn't have a wide gamut, has no ghosting issues, has deep blacks and white whites, has a coax input for secondary TV use, has HDMI (3-4 like the TV's), etc etc. If you can, I'd buy it provided it is good quality and top brand w/good warranty. I am very unwilling to pay over 850$ for a PC monitor, it'd better be perfect and there isn't one that I can find that exists in the US.

Best Buy had a 28" Hannspree hooked up to TV, it was by far the worst quality I have ever seen.

i had a 32" LG LCD tv as a monitor for like a year ran resolution 1366x768 it looked so sharp its not even funny,my eyes did not heart at all, but some tv's are not like that. what you should do is take a laptop and a dvi r a vga wire with you to the store, and ask them to hook it up( just tell them if it works good you'll buy it tomorrow) that way you know exactly what you're buying. I'm getting

and it should work nice as a monitor since it has higher resolution which would allow me to sit closer.
