6300 system overclock

Thread Starter
I was wondering what people thought would be some good overclocking ability for this CPU/RAM:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 6300 @ 1.86GHZ, 2mb l2 cache, 65nm
CHIPSET: NFORCE 650i
BOARD: GA NFORCE 650i DS4l
RAM: 4 GB DDR2 5300 667
OS: XP/VISTA dual boot.
CPU HEATSINK: THERMALTAKE 20 92mm fan sink.

the CPU idles at 32C and 43C under load at 260MHZ bus speed. I have heard that this processor can overclock up to 3.2GHZ, if so would it be worth it?

Overclocking is always worth it
It would be difficult for me to estimate how much of an overclock you will get as components are different from one to the other. You should certainly see a decent performance increase and 2.8ghz should be very easy.

yeah that seems like a good start : )

You'll get a pretty good OC out of the CPU if you bump the FSB up (looking at about 450MHz). Your RAM is **** though and will require you to run desynced if you want to get anywhere with the proc.

See my current system for ref. I've gotten my E6300 up to 3.5GHz 24/7 stable (500 x 7) but not right now, I upgraded my mobo's BIOS and reset the settings. Forgot what they were and am just too lazy to repeatedly test my OC's up to 3.5GHz again.
