the tint that you have to apply with a squeegee? I've been meaning to try some of that stuff out too

Manyak, if you end up using window tint, tell me how easy or hard it is

Thx guys I actually thought it looked terrible lol. I'm just OCD about the acrylic being cut properly, its way too messy to leave like this.

And thats a good idea repo I'm gonna have to think about using it. Its just that I got a lot of acrylic left over and nothing else to do with it. Plus with two pieces layered I can create some nice effects later with LEDs

And nate, window tint is easy as hell, I've installed it on at least 20 cars before. Its only difficult when the windows curves are really pronounced in more than one direction, like a cutout of a sphere, but that doesn't really apply to computer cases anyway . You just spray the window down with water, apply it with a squeegee, then cut off the excess by going around the window with a razor blade. Nothing to it.

Ahh, I see. Well go for it then, if you have the balls and the acrylic!

Yep Nate, nothing to window tint, especially on as small a scale as PC windows. Simple stuff. And FWIW, you can actually buy static cling tint that just goes on like those little plastic snowflakes and things you put on house windows for Christmas. Nothing more than cutting it and laying it on.

Well, the laws vary from state to state / country to country.

But as far as safety goes, do NOT tint your windshield lol. Also, if you use the really dark (5% or 10%) tints on the front windows, you may run into problems with seeing your mirrors at night.

Agreed on all parts. Here in Alabama the law differs from cars to trucks. Trucks have to have lighter tint. So definately check your states law books for your particular car (2 door/4 door/rear hatch) sometimes it differs by the window (rears tinted darker than the front, etc)

And 5% is very dark. I had it on my truck, it's near limo tint.

Good tips, thanks, +
Maybe 5% or 10% for rear doors, 2-4% for front windows and rear window, and leave the windshield un-tinted

this is still all just in my head, not sure if my parents will even let me tint my windows

I think you misunderstand the darkness levels.

5% = 5% of light gets through
10% = 10% of light gets through

Well I still can't decide exactly how I want the window (second layer or tinted), so I'm going to hold off on it for now.

Instead I went ahead and messed around with the PSU a bit.

This is it before:

First things first: I changed around the connectors. This PSU has no PCI-E connectors, and I've been using a molex splitter this entire time. So that had to change. And one of the SATA cables had a connector missing (I moved it to another PSU) so I just cut that cable off. It also had an AT power connector (you know, for the old school 486 boards), so I got rid of that as well.

The new PCIE cable. The wires were crimped onto the molex connector that will be used for the fans.

These are the ends of the missing cables taped off. I taped each wire separately then taped the pairs (+12 and 12v gnd, +5v and 5v gnd) so I wouldn't get confused later on if I ever needed them.

I'm not sure why I left the ziptie loose for this picture.....

That's right, its because I added this . Its gonna guide the wires through a hole in the panel once I get a damn hole saw (you know, standard A900 cable mod), so even without the shroud its all that will be seen.

Then I *almost* sleeved the main ATX cable - the only thing is that if I ever switched out the PSU I'd have to sleeve it again. So instead, I bought a few pieces off of performance-pcs.com, and put together my own extension cable and sleeved that in UV reactive blue.

The bottom of the cable isn't perfect, but that doesn't matter. Its going to be hidden behind the case anyway. Besides, this way is better because it gives room for the sleeving to adjust to the way its bent.
By the way, don't you love how the camera autofocuses on the carpet instead of the cable? I don't think it has manual focusing, which really pisses me off.

Sneak preview of it installed. And now you know why I picked red

And yeah, I still haven't cleaned out the dust from the case. I'll do it right before I paint the giant ducts, they have to be cleaned for the paint anyway.

Speaking of those ducts, I also found a way to fix the screwed up one - silicone! I used to use it all the time to properly seal up subwoofer enclosures, so I had a spare tube left.

This is the inside of the duct, so it won't be seen at all. Not like it isn't getting painted soon anyway It's all messy looking because I had to push it in between the two metal pieces to completely fill in the gaps.

So yeah, that's it for now. The next update will either be the window or the cut+painted shrouds (and a clean case!), whichever's opportuity comes up first.
