someone said there will be a bottleneck....

I was told that if i added a second 8800GT 512 in SLI with my current in a month or so that my E6300 even at 3.6ghz is going to bottleneck the cards. Now i understand my E6300 is ancient but you have to admit that 3.6ghz is kicking major arse and i think i can get it even up to 3.65ghz not that it's much more.

I don't think that a CPU running at 3.6ghz can bottleneck these cards too much. Maybe if i had better cards such as the 9800GTX's or if it was only clocked at 3.0 or 3.2. If there is one how much will it be? I'm still getting one either way most likely because it will be the best bang for my buck if i can get a second one for like 120 in a month or two here.

Whoever told you that is wrong. Bottlenecks only really occur with low Ghz processors or single cores and even the its not so big a deal as people make out IMO.
I see no reason not to get another 8800gt.

If you're running at 3.6, I don't think that there would be a bottleneck. If there is a bottleneck, I don't think it would make a huge difference.

I love bottlenecks. Without them, I'd have to drink all my beer out of cans.

Don't worry about it. Bottlenecks honestly aren't that big of a deal. Your CPU will be fine with those cards. Maybe a quad somewhere down the line, or a Wolfdale at 4GHz+ will ease it a little, but it's certainly not necessary at this point.

1. Everything will bottleneck something, it happens. Don't worry about it, your CPU is fine.

2. The only way you will increase your score is by getting a Quad. That CPU at that speed is pretty much tbe best you will get other than a E8400 or a quad.

3. Don't worry about it

4. Sell the 88GT and get a 98GTX + or a 4850

A single 9800GTX won't beat my SLI set-up and neither will a single HD 4850. I figure i have all the parts for it ready and plus SLI is starting to finally scale good with new games and the 8800GT scale pretty well. Sure i could sell this one for 120 or so and add 120 to get whatever card is around $250 at the time but it will all in all be about the same performance if not better seeing the new SLI benchmarks with 8800 and 9600gt's for less hassle.

Also back to the OP yea i figured....

Bottleneck or not, you'll still see a good performance boost depending on what you play
