is the windows default sound working?

try and checking the default out put for your sound. right click on the speaker and go to properties and configure.
also try reinstalling wmp

some motherboards require jumpers on the front panel sound pins in order for the motherboard to get sound at all. if they are not they then you will not get sound check you mobo manual to see if this board is under the requirements .

in your manual read front audio under hardware installition
http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/Manual/87910551.pdf

could that be the problem?
The front audio connector (J4) on the Karajan audio module allows
you to connect to the line-out and mic-in jacks that are at the front
panel of your system. Using this connector will disable the rear audio’s
line-out and mic-in functions.
Remove the jumper caps from pins 5-6 and pins 9-10 of J4 prior to
connecting the front audio cable connector. Make sure pin 1 of the
cable connector is aligned with pin 1 of J4. If you are not using this
connector, make sure to replace the jumper caps back to their
original pin locations.
The front audio is disabled.
The rear audio is enabled.
