I was wondering which processor would be best for the rig I am putting together. It will mostly be used for gaming. Also, I need some memory and a motherboard. Could you recommend something good? I want to keep it under $450-$500. All I need it a Motherboard, processor, and memory. I appreciate and help. Thanks.

Theres a guy selling a maximus extreme in the for sale section. Go to newegg to get a good deal on some ddr3 ram. Also, i'd suggest an e8400, but definitely go quad if you have the cash. Check the for sale section for either of those too. The quad is better.

Get the E8400. It's around the same price, higher stock speeds, and can overclock better. The only reason to get a quad is if your running apps that support it. The only ones that do are video rendering, 3d modeling programs, and benchmarking programs.

Reason I am asking is because a local computer store has both of the prcessors on sale for 199.99 right now. And that is the retail version. I might just order the E8400 if I get that. Its only 189 on newegg.

Any motherboard or memory you suggest?

Intel p35 chipset over NVidia? How come? Ive always had nvidia and loved them.

From personal experience I know they work well lol. A new nvidia chipset would be fine but I can't suggest one since I don't have experience with one. Check the intel mobos forum if you want an nvidia chipset.

I got a good setup for you:

Motherboard

Great Motherboard. Has 2 pcie x16 slots just in case you want to sli your video cards. Can support up to 16GB of RAM which is way more than you need Has a lot of USB slots which i always find handy

CPU

This is one of the best core 2 duo processors in the market. I think it operates at a good frequency (3.0ghz) Not to slow but not to fast. Great processor for your build.

Memory

Alot of good reviews for this memory. Also, plenty of memory to have vista as your operating system. You can handle any game with this much RAM. Fast RAM as well.

Hope that helps man.
