Low price upgrade?

Thread Starter
Well, I currently have a GeForce 7900GS. I haven't overclocked it (besides minor tweaks with ATI Tool, but no physical changes). I'm looking to upgrade it for a price somewhere between $75 and $110. What would you folks recommend? I thought of an 8600-something- but I'm not sure if it's better. I'm rather lacking knowledge in anything video card related.

Thanks for the help, I'll be back tomorrow.

Edit: I'm also going to upgrade to a x2 6000+ CPU. I currently have a 500 watt PSU, that has something like 15-16A on 12v? (I'll edit it when I find out). Should I upgrade to a more powerful PSU with a newer video card and CPU, if so, what would you recommend for stats?

DO NOT BUY A 8600 SERIES CARD... Now that i have said it please dont, i dont think you'd see any improvement on your 7900, all i can say is keep saving and pick up an 8800GT in a month when their prices drop furthur or a 3870 card. Spending money on a 8600 card now is like throwing away money...

I was looking at the 9600GSO as well, but shirked away since it's the only one of it's kind. So apparently I shouldn't get a 8600, and follow with an 8800 instead. Sounds good, but would the 9600GSO or 8800GS be better?

Edit: I'm not a particularly hardcore gamer. More medium. I play some, but not often enough to make a difference.

if $110 is the budget add $10 more get a 9600GT, it performs very close to an 8800GT.
