Would fans help?

Thread Starter
I currently have a somewhat stable (Orthos been running for ~ 1 hour) overclock of 3.6Ghz. I have a side-fan and a back-fan that are stock.
Would upgrading these fans bring in any better temps for my CPU?
Max I've seen them running Orthos is 69C (RealTemp) which is good; but I'd like to be able to go to 4Ghz without replacing the CPU cooler. (Even if I don't do that, lower temps are always nice)

Would replacing these fans bring down the heat enough to where there worth buying?

Moving more air in from the side and out the back would definitely help remove the heat that builds up inside and depending on how good the stock fans are it could be a huge difference. I use a silverstone FM121 (110cfm) as my rear case exhaust and it really moves some air. They cost about $20 but are well worth it.

I'm looking at your case and it looks like you can mount another 120mm fan in the front bottom of the case right in front of the hard drive cage. I would definitely add one there too. 80mm fans like you have on the side don't really move much air at all although it is better than nothing. I would upgrade the rear exhaust and put one on the lower front and you should have much better flow. Now the main factor in temps is your ambient temps, how hot is it in your room? The airflow of the case will help move cooler air in and the hot air created by your system out.

Btw what CPU cooler are you using as 69C is high.

Well; that's the maximum my chip has been displaying.
Minimum is 45C.
While running Orthos it's about 65C.
I'd say just general surfing and stuff would be 50C.
Perhaps that may be too high; I havn't messed around with any voltage settings yet (I just wanted to get something stable and then whittle it down)

I want my fans to be QUIET; since my case sits on my Desk and right now the side fan is blowing like right next to my ear; it's quite annoying.

What do you suggest some good quiet fans are? (Less than 25db would be good I guess?)

EDIT: The fan I got from a PC repair shop after they showed me that my Arctic Freezer 7 wouldn't fit my mobo.
On stock 2.3Ghz it idles around 30C which is pretty good I suppose.

I think the reason for the temps is that I haven't optimized the voltages at least I hope; my heatsink better not have came out! >=(

That's really where compromise comes in, airflow vs. noise. 45C for idle is high, how hot is it in your room?

I don't worry about noise with mine, I have 8 120mm fans, I use headphones. I know there are some good fans that have a good db/cfm ratio, I'll look a few up. Someone else might chime in with a good suggestion also!

hey there.

yes fans are good not sure bout make or models im jus usin 4 x 80mm. they do the job. but one more key thing is cabling. make sure they out the way and a good investment that should not be too expensive depending where you live is zip ties or zip cable covers. not sure of name overseas. but i noticed my temp without puttin my cables neatly was 33 degees on idle now i sit on 30 degrees on idle. i made sure room temp was about the same so results would be more accurate but different pcs will give different results. give it a try.
