Seagate 500Gb SATA2

hi there,

i am trying to install my new 500GB HDD what came today its SATA2, i have connected it up obviously but i dont get a drive letter in my computer, i have gone into device manager and it says the drive is working correctly.

how do i get it working?

If you are using vista or xp you may have to initialize the drive in disk manager, you can do this by right clicking my computer and selecting manage from the menu.

once you do that, right click the hard drive and click initialize disk, then right click again and select "Create Simple Volume"

i am using XP when i went on disk management i got told to unblock the firewall so i done that and then it says cannot find the specified file :S

There is something wrong with your OS then, this is the first time I've ever heard of the firewall giving you a warning when going into disk management.

can you try the drive in another pc
it might be the drive its self

probably wouldnt suprise me thats theres somthing wrong...

EDIT: none of my other computers have SATA

Nah there's something wrong with the OS, firewalls are only suppose to affect incoming and out going packets from the computer, they shouldn't interact with the file system on the machine the way he is describing.

there is somthing wrong i do know that... i do need to do a reinstall thats for sure. i managed to get the hard drive working using my 2nd partition OS being TinyXP. that worked
