cuda: yes physx: not yet

everything since the 8 series supports cuda, you just need the drivers. they have also been saying that they will come out with a physx driver that supports the 8 series cards (and hopefully the 9600GT).

PhysX: Deffinite No for the 8800GTX. See for yourself: http://www.overclock.net/4069818-post316.html

The G92 doesn't have a PPU. The GT200 doesn't have a PPU. They both run physics.. through CUDA.. on the GPU. So can the G80, and so will the G80.

I'm sorry for being so crass but this is blatant spreading of misinformation.

all that post said was that the mystery chip on the 8800GTX wasn't a ppu. that doesn't mean it cant run the physX code through cuda.

I've never heard of GPUs having onboard PPUs until I read these posts suddenly inquiring about it.

Every single news bit I've seen about GeForce PhysX since they started talking about the porting to CUDA has been about CUDA and the GPU. No mention of running anything on a PPU other than Ageia's old thing. I don't see where this PPU stuff is coming from, the PPU is dead.

Hmmm. Does that mean it will get a performance boost if they get it to work through cuda?

I don't care about PhysX I care about CUDA. I was using 177.35 and Folding with GPU2 with no problems. The G80 works just fine for that it was gaming that was an issue I am assuming since we had to use a modded .inf that it wasn't written specifically for the G80 core. However, what I know about cores/drivers could be written on the edge of a razor blade with enough room leftover for a novel.

Sorry if I don't proof to back this up, but I believe that all 8 series and later will eventually have physics. They don't have PPUs but physX will be used through CUDA, which the 8 series (and later) can support. The beta drivers before (177.35 and 177.39) could only work with 9 series and GTX series, but that doesn't mean future drivers will not give support to 8 series.
