I'm sure there is but I don't know of it. It's not using actual RAM either.

I would think that would be from onboard video. That would be a BIOS option if it was.

What motherboard do you have exactly? Just disable onboard video.

What exactly does it say in the resource monitor? Does it flat out say "shared video memory" or some thing to that effect? I thought I'd had seen and delt with all the evils of Vista, but I've never heard of this.

I almost wonder if this is some thing coming from the video driver. you might want to try re-installing that.

Whast version of Vista do you have? Are you running the Areo desktop? I think that would researve some memory for its usage...but I haven't had it on in a long time

here is what it says in vista

is 600-700mb idle memory usage normal in vista, looking through task manager their is a nice gap between what is being used by proccesses and what it claims is being used, im a vista noob pretty much but it looks like vista is holind 250mb (-/+) of RAM back for use with my card.

I have noticed the same thing on my card properties also. I dont know the exact numbers it has for shared and total vid memory beings I am not at my home computer now, but it is giving me a bigger chunck of shared and total memory beings I have 3GB of RAM. I think it was something like around .5 to 1GB of ram it was adding as shared memory to my vid card. I never thought about it being an issue though beings everything is running fine.

Not sure if anyone else has any input on this though.
