Thread Starter
just did a qucik rough add up of memory usage in the task manager, came to around 25-270mb being used (idle) + the 254mb of the shared memory and i get my current memory usage.

so does anyone know of how i can stop it sharing the memory?

No you can't disable it.
That's how Vista memory management works. You don't lose it, it only uses it if needed.
My card is 512MB
My total available system video memory is 1919MB.

Its a BIOS option. It used to be called "AGP Aperture Size", and back in the day of 16mb graphics cards it used to make a big difference with performance. I'm not sure what its called with PCIe, but it should be something similar.

You're right. From MS Documentation:

Quote:
Shared System Memory: This usually makes up the bulk of system memory available to the GPU and is “allocated†on demand when needed. Shared system memory is really just regular application VAD which are probe and locked and made visible to the GPU. VidMm will only allow up to N bytes to be pinned down simultaneously where N is: ((Total System Memory – 512)/2 – Dedicated System Memory)
