[INQ] Nvidia cheats on 3DMark with 177.39 drivers - Page 2

lmao this article is silly. and you guys above me obviously didn't read it.

What the INQ is calling cheating, i would call Technological advancement. All they're saying is that the GPU now does what 3Dmark assumed the CPU or PhysX card should do.

OH NOES, HOW COULD THEY.
It's called progress.

EDIT: I think i'm going to start a list of people who didn't read the article but feel the right to bash nvidia
I noticed that too, and I also see nothing wrong with it. But on the other hand, DX10.1 specifications were dropped due to Nvidia not complying, due to ATI cards not complying don't you think it is only fair that this should be dropped? This is not a fanboy POV I am merely stating that Nvidia cannot cry and hold us back when they can't achieve what ATI can, but they seem to think it is alright to carry on when ATI cannot comply.

If you really lose any respect for Nvidia because of that, then...Wow.

And if you gained any respect for ATi because of that.....Wow, ATi hasn't done anything other then not port PhysX to their cards, which I believe they are allowed to do, Thanks to Nvidia.

Sure wish I could 'cheat' some more performance out of my hardware.

But how?

How has Nvidia done wrong?
Enabling Physics on their GPU like
was stated they would when the 8 series was conceived?

Personally i don't really care, having a personal attachment
to certain brands is stupid, which ever is faster/price
gets my money.

So what else is new?

GPU makers have been doing this since day one, no big deal really. We just have to wait 'till we get the cards in our hands then we'll really know how good they are.

I believe they could only do it if they supported CUDA? Or am I chatting out of my AS5? All i remember is Nvidia used PhysX as a means to force ATI into doing something. They didn't just let them have it for nothing.....as far as I remember. Please correct me if I am wrong

Actually, using 3DMark with PhysX is not fair at all for comparative benchmarks. PhysX should be scored separately from the rest of the scores, so as to accurately reflect the influence of PhysX on the overall benchmark score. This way you can see the benefit of PhysX, but not count it for comparative benching. That or Havok engine should be included as well for ATI cards.

This isn't cheating, this is technological advancement. That's like saying AMD cheats on their memory latency/bandwidth scores by integrating the memory controller in the CPU. Or like saying intel cheated on processor benchmarks by creating dual/quad core processors.

Its not cheating, its a side-effect of an improvent. But of course you can no longer use 3dmark to compare graphics between nvidia and ati cards unless all games support physx.

yup your right, i get what people are saying with that ATI can't do that so
it's unfair but that was the same with AMD vs Intel in CPUs back in the P4
days with AMDs memory controller, so it's all just QQ.

If it's so unfair as people are making it out to be AMD/ATI need to get on
the ball and get Physics running on their GPUs.

I really could care less about Vantage results anyhow, but it wouldn't really surprise me considering NVidia's behavior as of late.
