NVIDIA snaps up physics processing company Ageia

Notice the date. I'm pretty sure the drivers for Nvidia's cards to use physx weren't even around when they were programming 3dmark vantage.

Sorry that Nvidia can step up to the plate and do the physx+ video transcoding on their gpu's while ATI just sat on their asses for 2 years making a card that only stands up to the Nvidia 2 year old tech. Its not my problem though. lol
At least that "one game" was somewhat popular. No good games uses PhysX at all. How does ATi only stand up to Nvidia's 2 year old tech? Please tell me. They have PPU coming out next year and probably because they thought it was useless to include it this year.

And if Nvidia wasn't the reason for Futuremark including PhysX, who was? AEGIA? Some experimental company whose physics card sales were dismal?

Nvidia could have been planing on buying Ageia and persuade Futuremark to use Ageia in their upcoming benchmark AKA vantage. And FYI ATi is working on Steam Processing among other things on their GPUs (SDK is out). Someone could code an video transcoding program if they wanted to. You should learn about what they are doing before you say ATi has been setting on their asses for two years...

Please tell me how you think Nvidia forced Futuremark to include physx. Would they say something like "Include physx or else we will make our own cards run crappy on your benchmark and make ATI look better" ? lol

Edit: From the article I read earlier about making the streaming processing available on any gpu, it sounded more like other companies saw nvidia walking on ati again and now are going to try and lvl the playing field by making a generic phsyx/video transcoding app or whatever. Thats what I got from the article. It didn't sound like ATI was actually doing it all. Hence sitting on their asses.

No. It would have been "Include PhysX. Here's some development cash".

Lol. Well then blame the company that sold out. If you can't understand that then I really don't know what else to say.

its not like the benchers want to pay for 3dmark, look at all the hate threads that where made when people found out they actually had to pay for software, I guess no torrents worked this time

lol, breaking news, nvidia cards can do game physics
-----------

This whole thing would be a non issue if FM hadn't sold out and put PhysX in Vantage to begin with.

Anyway, I think we can see it in two ways:

1 - It makes the benchmark unfair, because it gives advantage to nVidia PhysX ready cards;

2 - It makes the benchmark fair because nVidia cards have the ability to do physics.

IMO, FM should cut the Ageia PhysX support off to even the fields.

Oh Futuremark is definitely responsible but what Nvidia did wasn't ethical either.

I think benchers would rather have some non-biased software than free crap software.

Like I said, the fact that Nvidia cards can process physics is irrelevant at this point it time because games aren't making use of it. Maybe ATi should make a card that can make toast and then we can add that to the benchmarks score.

Personally don't care about folding. I believe folders should optimize all they can so that we waste less energy while saving the world.
