just plugged my ps3 joypad into my pc and it found it as a HID and under Game Controllers it had it as a PS3 controller, but none of the buttons are responding with it, any way to get it to work

You need to download and run the libusb driver.

lilusb driver never worked for me.

I had the most successful GameSaike driver.

Though, I am not able to move around during my desktop, on games such as DiRT, I can the config my keys to controller and use it in the game.

Never worked for you huh? You have to run the ps3sixaxis_en.exe everytime you want to use it. I use it all of the time.

I could never get it to work either, even with ps3sixaxis_en.exe running.

Just buy a USB to PS2(Playstation) converter, its around 8 dollars at radio shack. Thats what i did and it was plug and play on XP. It worked great, even my Guitar Hero 1 controller worked so i could play frets on fire.
