Overclocking the Phenom 9500

Thread Starter
Well,

Im trying to oc the phenom 9500 with my 790x-Ds4 mobo. I started out by increasing the cpu frequency by 9 to 209. Then tested Prime 95 for 10 mins, and then increased by 5. The frequency is now at 214 and the cpu multiplier is 11.

However the HT link is above 1900, and im not really aware of what this is and what it should be set at. I think this is too high.

Can somone fill me in on if its high, and what i should to do lower it if it is? Mind you im not done overclocking so that has to be taken into account.

Thanks.
shibbz

question answered, need ocing help though (post 2)

I looked around and the ht link seemed normal.

However im having some trouble ocing this. Right now im stable at 2.4ghz with multiplier at 11, and FSB at 219. Im trying to go higher but when i increase FSB to 221-224 it wont post, and it goes back to 200. I tried increasing voltage by .05, i tried reducing multiplier to 10.5, i tried changing ram multi to 3.3, but i cant get it to post with 224 fsb.
http://www.amdgeeks.net/overclock/723
These guys got it to 2.9 ghz with 267 FSB. They have the same mobo/cpu as me as well.

Any help appreciated,

thanks.

You'll need alot more voltage.

Bump it to 1.4v and see where that gets you.

Alright, still having troubles. After it reset last night, it cant even get back to 219. Seems like i was even lucky to get to 219 fsb. Right now im at 217, and my cpu multi is 11. I tried getting to 219 and higher, i even raised the cpu voltage to 1.45, but it still just takes so long to post, then when it posts it resets the fsb. I tried lowering the multi, the ram multi, raising the voltage, still cant get it past 219 fsb.

I think i can do it i just need to know what else i should change. Heres my current settings and options in BIOS:

CPU CLOCK RATIO - [x11]
MEMORY CONTROLLER FREQ - [AUTO] 1983 mhz
CPU FREQUENCY [217]
PCIE Clock [AUTO]
HT LINK FREQUENCY [AUTO] (not the multiplier)

MEMORY CLOCK [x4] 888 mhz

---VOLTAGES---
CPU VOLTAGE - [+1.00v]
NORMAL CPU VCORE - 1.25
DDR2 Voltage [AUTO]
SOUTHBRIDGE AND NORTHBRIDEGE VCORE [AUTO]

I think theres other options i could change, but i never tried. The red ones are the ones i didnt change, but i think may help my situation. CPUZ says me DDR voltage is at 1.8, but i think its 1.9. I cant find the same ram that i have. I have this ram:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145184
but its 2x1gb. Newegg says the rams voltage is supposed to be 1.9 for those, and mine are set at 1.8

Any help appreciated, thanks. Btw below is my current cpu-z.

-edit- i have this exact ram, does this mean i gotta raise the ddr voltage to 1.9?

Nothing to do with your Phenom, your ram is running too fast.

Change the CPU/RAM ratio to have your ram running at 667mhz.

Don't worry, by overclocking it will work its way back to 800mhz.

Whoops i thought id be able to quote again while im writing post.

Penicylin:Will do. Right now i got it to 219 at 1.45 voltage, but its on and off, sometimes it works, sometimes it resets. Will try to lower ram now. Thanks.

This may be a bit much to chew at first, but if you work at it patiently, you'll come out with a winner, I hope. What you need to understand from all o this is that you lower all the settings to isolater how far your mobo will go (isolate the HT), then once you find out far far that wil go you oush the CPU, then bring in the RAM. It takes tme, patience, and some luck, but once you start seeing how it falls together, you'll getthe idea and get the thing done. If you need help, ask because you are i nthe right place.

Hell yea, before i came here i didnt know what processor i had.

SICK - i lowered the RAM to 667, and for once, when i saved BIOS, it didnt take an hour (exaggerate much?) to boot. It booted up quick with 219 FSB. Hopefully it will stay like that.
