[IGN] Call of Duty 5 First Look

US, June 23, 2008 - It's not easy following a blockbuster, particularly one that sold 10 million copies in only about six months. Last year, Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare blew away gamers with its deafening intensity, gorgeous graphics, and addictive multiplayer suite. But now it's Treyarch's turn with Call of Duty: World at War, a game that marks a return for the franchise to its World War II roots. The fact that it's Treyarch and not Infinity Ward making the game, as well as the fact that you shoot an M1 Garand instead of an M-16, has stirred an intense debate amongst gamers. It's something that Mark Lamia, Treyarch's studio head, understands. "People don't want to play the same World War II game that they've played before," he told us, just before he gave us a first look at World at War. His message: Treyarch wants to redefine what to expect from a World War II shooter.

It looks pretty good to be honest, but who knows they always made the commercials seem so much better than in-game.

CoD 3 was awful... remember, this is made by a different company than the one that made CoD 4.

I'll keep playing CoD 4.

Hmmmm. Redefining expectations of a WWII shooter...

I'm thinking more Red Army and Pacific focus, rather than simply US v. Nazis. They dabbled into it a little in CoD2 and CoD3, and I quite enjoyed it.

Then again, this may just be another really nice looking WWII game.

I always liked the WWII shooters. I'm easily amused though.

As long as it is creative, it will never get old.

I do think that the pacific theater of operations, and especially the Asian mainland operations would make an excellent, and very interesting game.

Hoping that they would redefine what to expect from a World War II shooter in a good way and not with some crappy gameplay. I always thought good gameplay was the main reason as to why COD is such a hit series. Treyarch better pull out something amazing if they really wanna be successful like IW.

I love WW2 shooters but am really getting tired of the same battles over and over. CoD4 was a nice change but what we really need is a completly original WW2 FPS that has that special something, that defines it and sets it way infront of all those it follows...

CoD3 wasn't that bad. It was just rushed because Activision wanted it released by the end of this year.
