Upgrade, good or bad choice?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
Well the time has come that I am ready to do my summer upgrade.

I don't gaming on here, Halo 3 . But I do a lot of multitasking and sometimes it can crawl to a slowdown. I was thinking that a quad core may help me some, and was thinking about getting a Q6600 and P35 motherboard. But today I saw the promotion that gives the motherboard for free with the AMD 9850. Would I see a dramatic drop in performance between the two, or should I take the deal and save some money.

Thanks!

Which motherboard are you getting for free with the 9850? It really depends on what kind of multitasking you are doing because bringing an X2 5000+ to a "crawl" isn't any easy feat. If you aren't gaming then I would go for a quad core and either the Q6600 or the 9850 would be just fine.

A lot of stuff open , alright its the Biostar A770, it comes to a total of like 70 less which I can put into something else.

Probably will do RAID 0 or something.

Thanks!

my 5000+ has stood up to everything i've thrown at it, but if you are really looking for an upgrade then go for a quad.

If you have a lot of stuff open it is most likely the amount of physical memory you have that is limiting you, not your processor. With Vista, I'd recommend 4GB of ram.

I have been watching it when it has been doing that, and the processing cores go to 100%, ram at like 75%.

Nice video TripleC

I can imagine in a few years watching a similar video with 8 cores
