Vid Card Fan wont (delete)

Thread Starter
I have a diamond viper hd 3650 1gb that came with a fan.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814103053

Its a tiny little fan seems to have a case of LMS cuz its much louder than all the other larger fans in the case.

How can I slow it down? Would it be safe just to unplug that sucker?

Thanks

You don't wanna unplug it, card will over heat for sure.
Doesn't look like the fan has a speed wire, only see black and red.
Probably not worth the price of an aftermarket cooler.
What you could do is pull the cover off, disconnect the fan and somehow attach a quiet 80mm fan to the heatsink.
You know what I mean?

Ok so I just ripped out the old fan put a nice quiet one in with zip ties.

Much quieter and it wont go over 60C under load.

Great idea thanks.

Agreed, I would put this in my guide as another mod. If it has to do with fans, it has to do with Air Cooling!

Great work! I'm surprised that the bigger fan was still able to get air under that logo, but looks like it does!

Nice work

Will the cover not come off?
Would work even better, if the fan could blow directly on the fins.

The cover is actually a duct with the heat sink inside. The fan is blowing into the duct which then is exhausted through the entire right side of the cover thingy.

I would upload more pictures but I hate all the pic upload sites. I used to know a really good one that you dont even have to sign up for but I have since forgotten what it is.

Photobucket is my fav.

Also what Grunion was saying, he knows it lows through the tunnel, he's wondering if you can remove the top part (with the sticker) so that the fan can blow directly on the fins. The only reason it is a tunnel is to save vertical space, but if you don't care about space having it right on top of the fins would cool a lot better.
