How Do You Remove Thermal Tape?

Thread Starter
Okay I'm replacing the thermal tape on my Thermaltake VGA heatsinks and I'm not really sure how to remove the tape. I can't seem to find any tutorials or anything so I figured I'd ask and see what methods anyone else used.

So share the knowledge.

What I would do is take a razor and try and peel it off very carefully of course. I'm not too sure though I've never had to deal with thermal tape.

Rubbing alcohol and a couple of Q-tips will pull it all off.

Okay well I'll try soaking it in alcohol. Q-tips and Alcohol doesn't get the actual tape off of the VGA heatsink. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll try the Razor. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'd also say use a razor blade to peel the tape off. Then use some rubbing alcohol and Q-tips or paper towels to get the sticky stuff off.

Or some thermal stuff remover stuff (don't know the name) works quite well as well .

First use a razor to take out the main part, then use WD-40 to get rid of the sticky residue (comes off really easily with WD-40) then clean it real good with rubbing alcohol. gl

Well I used a razor and got all the tape off the heatsinks and the WD-40 didn't work too well so i just soaked the bottom of the heatsinks in alcohol for about 10 minutes and then wiped them all off. Works like a charm. All nice and smooth and waiting to be re-tapped and sold.
