8.6 VS 8.5 3Dmark Results

Thread Starter
Hey guys, once again im new to the site and decided to do a little research on the new drivers, to see if what they claim to do is accurate. (Note: I am using a visontek ATI 3870 OC’d with CCC to 840 core and 1170 memory)
I ran 2 test under each driver in 3Dmark Vantage Professional, hope the results can help (For the 2nd round I forgot to document FPS sorry)

8.5 Driver version:
Test 1:
*Overall GPU score: 4250
*Test 1 FPS: 11.59
*Test2FPS: 13.34

Test 2:
*Overall GPU score:4225
*Test 1 FPS: 11.63
*Test2FPS: 13.15

Catalyst 8.6:
Test 1:
*Overall GPU Score: 4569
Test 2:
*overall GPU Score: 4554

Conclusion: 8.6 is indeed much better than 8.5, and as for in game experience, Crysis runs much smoother IMO, and COD4 is improved as well.

ummm intresting!

i found i got better scores and FPS with 8.5...
BUT...i was still in process of finding a stable OC for both GPU & CPU...so that might have thrown it off a bit!

3870 overclocking?
What you using to OC you card HotA_Phoenix?

Tried Rivatuner - I can put the sliders up to their max setting....save apply...reboot....
rivatuner has saved the OC settings....but GPUZ still picking up the cars (both cores) as running at stock speeds...

ATI Tool - tried 2 versions....1 doesn't let you OC above 400 Mhz on GPU core.....the other launches and just sits in the taskbar, but you can't open.

ATI Overdrive -Sliders ONLY go up to 877 GPU & 955 Memory (on both cores)...GPUZ does pick the new clock speeds....but its only increasing FPS in games by 2-3 frames?!

ANy advice would be grand...
been asking in ATI OC forum...but got heeeehooo respone over the last week....

autotune does go higher...but when it does...it freezes the whole pc up...
just can't seem to find a proper way of OC'n the 3870 X2!...

i got 11,200 in 3dmark06...
but thats prob just down to the power of the card rather than my actual OC skills...
and it would prob be a dam sit higher if i was using a q6600 instead of aa opti!
but thats another debate...lol

scores posted were for GPU only, total score was around 10.5k, and i have tried ATItool and rive, but didnt like very much, bad support for 8.6 and the clocking took itself back down alot to default.
