Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe, powers on and then shuts off

OK I am giving my old Mobo, CPU and Ram to my dad. so I mounted it in the case and and hooked everything up but now when I turn it on everything spins up for 2 or 3 seconds and then it shuts off. I tried unplugging everything from the Mobo (except CPU and Ram). I also tried a different PSU, no joy. Any ideas?

The M2N series of boards do that, my M2N32-SLI does it, its a normal Asus thing, nothing to be worried about. It should do it once and then after that you should be able to push the power button and it *should* POST.

I have the m2n32-SLi deluxe wifi edition, and Ive never had that type of problem really. Once in a while i have had something like that, but i think he is talking about a problem that is persistant, not every now and then.

As for fixing, if its still warrenty, RMA it.

Yeah It it's persistant, I guess I will have too. But I already RMAed this board once for the same problem (I started this thread before I decided that it was dead). Seriously what it up with this model and crapping out?

I had the same problem. I found the the hard drive LED on the case had shorted out causing the m/b to see a short and shut down. I removed the LED and all is well again.

Make sure the 4-pin ATX power connector is in there!

I just accidentally trashed my BIOS on my M2N-SLI DELUXE... I accidentally Flashed it with BIOS from M2N-SLI32 Deluxe... I can't get it to recover with "Crash Free Boot". I got it to re-flash from the CD but now it does nothing.... HD light stays solid lit, CD spins about 3 seconds then Black screen of Hell... I ordered a new MOBO but would really like to fix the old one... Any suggestions???

The only thing that was plugged in was the power switch.

ok I got a mobo back from RMA today and it's still doing it. I tried to boot it the first time and it wouldn't boot so I unplugged everything but the video card, the HDD, 1 stick of ram and the power switch. After that it would boot so I shut it down and plug the other RAM stick in and it boots fine. So plug in the DVD drive, the IDE HDD drive that I want to use (was using a SATA to test) and plug in the rest of the case wires. I go to boot and it does it again so I unplug everything except the video card and the power switch, I even removed the RAM and it does it again, I tried various combinations of things plugged in. Still nothing.

I have no freaking clue what is wrong, I need help please.

Col. Newman, it could be a device/component that is shorting out. Have you tried taking everything out of the case to see if you can get it to POST? Make sure you place your components on a non-static surface. Have you tried a different optical drive, IDE hard drive or IDE cable?

Good luck
