You cant have everything. The fact is the more powerful the GPU then generally its going to need more power. I think if this card can BEAT out nvidia in price and performance ( Pretty much already is ) then you have already got a winner of a card. I think there is only so much power conservation you can do with this kind of product.

I think these new cards are going bold very well for AMD. I'm one of those crazy people that like Nvidia and ATI ....but I'm a die hard AMD CPU fanboy

With as much power the older rigs used,we really can't complain too much with these new products and this is the wrong hobby to worry about the electric bill.

Great card it is.

Now i would like to see some shader overclocking.
I remember a rumour that it wouldn't have linked clocks.

AMD/ATI can afford to play nice when they're the underdog, but if they come to dominate the market they're not immune to arrogance (remember when AMD's Athlon 64 destroyed Intel's processors, and people were paying $800 for FX processors?)
remember when people were paying $1000 for slower PXE's at the same time?
or $200 for a 3Ghz p4 when an a640 3000+ wasn't much over $100?

trust me in AMD's "domination era" they weren't charging too much if anything they were charging TOO little and had too little to funnel into R&D(if you hadn't noticed k10 is a failure on the desktop market)

i think i'm goin with two 4870X2s this time around, even though they probably won't compete with tri sli GTX 280s in vantage.
Wow.......nice. Extremely bad news for the overpriced GTX series. GTX280 is screwed when the 4870X2 arrives.

I think you should wait a little for other sites to review power consumption of these cards. Look at their idle power, 220W!! That's insane. Considering the 4850 has a 110W TDP, and there's ~20% rise in core speed, I'd say the 150WTDP that we've seen flying around will probably be the final specification.
