[Expreview] 4870 Benchmarks! - Page 4

Wow, i used to be all for NVIDIA for a while but I think i found my next video card. NVIDIA is kinda failing because of prices. The GTX 280 is not worth it and the GTX 260 is good but not for what it's supposed to be priced at. And also 9800GTX+ doesn't come up to these benchmarks. For $300 it's ATI Radeon HD 4870 FTW!!!

Anyway my next upgrade will have to be after Christmas now,Can not moan relly as these 8800GT are not that bad.
I agree....I'm waiting until winter to upgrade....maybe even longer. My cards are running great with my huge OC so I can't complain. By then a revision will be out probably and some BIOS editing tools for overvoltage and uber OCing

i'd wanna see how this Radeon fair's against a 9800GX2

HD4870 is definitely a great buy! on par slightly slower than the gtx280... a nice overclock should send it over the top though.. not only that, but with the saved funds you can grab another and dominate a gtx280. Also if more than 2 cards are you fetish, like mine! crossfire generally scales tons better after 2 cards than Nvidia. I so see these cards in trifire and quadfire dominating hardcore. Hmm for the price of 2 gtx280's you can have 4 hd4870's!

I also want to point out that it seems the hd4870 tested appears to be clocked 50mhz slower than the believed spec. Thought it was supposed to be 800mhz core?

Finally the card I've been waiting for! It's about time ATI swung back at the Hulk. And I've been die hard nVidia since the 3dfx acquizition. Gotta love the price/performance point on the 4870- performance just shy of nVidia's $600+ offerings at less than half the cost.

Vantage is useless. It's only a tool whose only purpose is to impress the inexperienced. The way games look and their respective framerates are what determines how 'good' a card is.

Actually I just realized that those Crysis benchmarks are on all high, nevermind my previous comment, i have yet to see how it performs on very high. And seriously what is with people testing high end cards on "High" obviously its gonna run damn good, even my 8800GT runs 40 FPS @ 1680x1050. The real test is "Very High" get with the game people.

So when does this card come out? i thought it was the 23rd.

i know it's useless for gaming performance comparison atm but my computer is meant to show my customers what i can build, and they look at 3dmark scores. i'm just thinking that hopefully i can get higher scores in 03, 05, and 06 to make up for my lower vantage scores.

4870X2 still has my name on it but this card is really impressive.
