Ton of people flash evga oced bioses to their galaxy 8800GTs before.
In some cases, different OEM BIOS's do not always work on other brands. Also, there is no reason to flash a BIOS unless there is either a voltage change or memory timing change.

I this were the 4870, it wod be worse. they can only make the midrange card so good and so cheap in order to protect sales of the higher end )
I blasted nvidia for blindsiding consumers with an unannounced 9800GTX price drop(~$100) and the future release of 9800GTX+... Now ATI is taking a page out of Nvidia's playbook obsoleting the first wave 4850s! If I bought a 9800GTX OC for ~$300 three weeks ago I'd be pissed at nvidia. Now if I had bought a HD 4850 within the last week or so I'd be pissed at ATI. The Rev. 2 purportedly has a better stock cooler and higher clocks, either from binned cores or increased voltage and I'd be stuck with the rev. 1 4850. Really now, are ATI and NVIDIA that different?

Try www.ncix.com they are the best computer retailer in Canada, fast shipping and great prices. They have 4850s for $199 and $175 ($25 MIR). I always find tigerdirect to have older and over priced products.

But yeah, I've ordered things from NCIX and it took 1 day to get from Vancouver to Winnipeg.

Oh and NCIX has a USA site as well.

Edit: I might be picking up a 4870 tomorrow from them (if tomorrow is the official release date)

i don't think GPU card companies volt mod their cards, they just pick the ones that will overclock the best (like cpu's with low VIDs) and sell those OCed.

so thats why ZealotKi11er's factory OC card OCed higher

I agree. I think both companies are lame for doing this. At least with the GTX+ there is a hardware difference, but that still doesn't excuse the GTX/4850 price drops. It just shows how powerful competition really is. Now, if they had released the newer 4850's and said they had a revision as the stock HSF wasn't good enough or they had better yields so could sell them at higher clocks, fine. But, when you are doing it just to keep up with the other guy, it is basically saying **** to the consumer.

As happy as I will be in the next few months when I buy a new card, I feel bad for tose who just bought theirs. (altyhough, anyone could tell you it is never a good idea to buy one of the first of anything. Let it work some of the bugs out first.)

edit: Where are all the people toting the technological acheivements of these companies. It has always and will always be about $$$$$. They will not produce until it is needed. I honestly think nvidias new cards would be worse if ATI hadn't stepped up to force them to compete. This is a little microcosm of the CPU industry. I wish all the hardcore Intel fanboys would look at this and learn something.
