Internet, cable and satellite broadcasters pay royalties to all participants involved. Singers, musicians and the labels get no royalties when AM-FM radio broadcasters air their songs.
Quote:
The group says that free airplay generates as much as $2.4 billion a year for the recording industry.
No, they don't get royalties - THEY GET SALES

I guess even sales aren't enough, huh? That's like Chevy making customers at a Chevy car lot pay for a test drive. "Well, you've now driven the car and you didn't buy it. You know how it drives and how it handles. Unfortunately, this is the property of GM and its engineers and we now need a royalty for your experience. Let's see, you drove it for 10 minutes, so you owe $x.xx amount immediately."

Where's my flamethrower??? ... ok found it. now let's google the location of RIAA members!...

MUAHAHAHAHA!!!! those "mother-doers" are going down.
Songs on the radio isn't a new concept. Is the RIAA only now figuring out that people can listen to music on the radio for free (other then the cost of the radio)?
I laughed out loud.

Everyone here is right. Typically the RIAA just pisses off people who pirate songs, or people who dont like seeing people get sued for $300,000 for sharing a dozen songs. Now they're going to attack something every person takes for granted? Radio? No effin way. They're going to awaken the proverbial sleeping giant.

I dont really care either way because I got a lifetime subscription to sirius radio, but this will be really fun to see what happens.

I say let them pass this bill. Radio stations will shut down, "artists" will no longer be known, and then they'll realize how stupid this is.

I missed though, how radio broadcasting is considered a form of piracy. I tried to read the bill, but didn't get far... From my understanding, didn't radio stations have to pay for the "privilege" to play an artist's music? Maybe I misunderstood that--but a good point was brought up--how do the radio stations get the music in the first place? Isn't it from the recording studio? If playing songs on the radio is a form of piracy, why are recording studios affiliated with the RIAA "giving" their music away? Kinda perplexing...Oh, wait, no it's not, they just want more $$$... How disappointing. If it's one thing I really can't stand in today's society, it's greed. Pursuit of money is one thing, but greed is a completely different animal.
