[Wired] Recording Industry Decries AM-FM Broadcasting as 'A Form of Piracy' - Page 5

You know...at one time I sort of sympathsized with the RIAA. I mean if I invented an amazing widget that washed your car, made you get a birdie on a Par 5, and trimmed your nose hairs...I would be mad to walk down the mall to see booths where people were giving them away for free that I had no part in.

But they have gone too far...way past too far. Now days they are saying that if some one lent their widget to a friend that it would be priracy...and now they are basically saying a demo of my widget is priracy.

OMG...I was in the mall yesterday and there was music playing overhead...I'M A PRIRATE *hides head in shame*

I usually start by inserting my key into the ignition, then depressing the clutch and starting the car.

But I digress, I rarely listen to radio anymore just because it's mostly garbage. Only for long trips when the sound of the engine gets monotonous rather than melodic.

RIAA, pull your heads out of your asses. the Broadcasting companies can and will completely DESTROY your income source. All they have to do is cease playing any RIAA-affiliated bands and bam, you lose record sales faster than you can whine about it, then you'll be thankful for every illegal download as that's all the exposure your artists will get anymore. Don't be dumb you idiots.

As a matter of fact, my local radio station, 102.9 The Buzz, actually had a giveaway where, if you were the 9th caller, you would get a code that would allow a legal, free download of Disturbed's Indestructible album right off disturbed.com(Even has album art and sleeve jackets you can print off if you so desire), and this started the day BEFORE it went on sale. Talk about free promotion

Lol did you see Ice-T told soulja boy to eat a D**K lol

They do the same thing to club DJ's, they go after night clubs all the time asking for royalties etc, when in fact before a song hits the radio, it typically debut's in the club scene and through "record pools" depending on how a song ends up doing amongst the members of the pool determines if it makes to airplay or not. As a pool member you pay yearly dues to get pre-release "promo only" material, but then they (RIAA, ASCAP, etc)turn around and try to make you pay royalties when your providing them a service that you pay to do, this is a big reason why I got out of it, too much b.s. and worrying in the end.

Believe it or not many songs are made or broken in clubs before they ever have a chance at air.
