[InfoWorld]Microsoft VP confirms Windows 7 ship date - Page 3

I love how people are comparing vista to windows ME.

Along with most of my friends, i love vista over XP, but Windows 7 will be much better from what i've seen.

I think its ironic how vista is now seen as a stain because of the driver catastrophie in the first few months of its debut, and everyone says "wait for windows 7 cause my 5 year old computer cant run vista which cant run any programs". Windows 7 is cutting backward compatability, so unless MS writes a vista/XP emulation layer, it will be January 2006 all over again.

I am sure that date will get pushed back...a lot. And even after it comes out MS is not going to drop Vista. how long as Vista been out and XP is still getting updates? My guess is that those who would go out and buy vista today wil get three to four good years out of it.

...unless they pull a DX11 out of their butts and try to force people to buy Windows 7.

Heh...I've been compareing Vista to ME since it was in beta. At launch it was all true. Its not so bad any more...the only bad thing is it is harder to get my older programs and hardware to work right. My beloved BotherMFC 4350 doesn't have a working Vista 64 driver

I dont think anyone that has used vista extensively is calling it windows ME, the press and people who dont know ANYTHING about computers might do that. Microsoft is treating it like that it seems, but not the people using vista or those that know a thing or two about xp and vista.

i bet companies like intel, nvidia, ati, microsoft, etc, ALL read forums like this.
and i wonder how many times they have gotten ideas from people in forums and just made it a part of their product.

like when this thread is talking about DX11 not being supported in vista. say some tech guy is sitting at his computer screen and reads this, then tells his boss he came up with a great way to scam people again!

lol i would punch myself if an idea like that came from my sarcasm...

Fat chance. They've been trying to push Vista sales; although this is deserving, doing this would reverse that.

Windows Server 2008 and Vista run off the exact same kernel. I wouldn't be opposed to using Server 2008 as my primary OS because it is much more performance oriented but you cannot buy retail licenses and you need expensive anti-virus for it.

Where are you getting that they have "dumped" Vista? Jan 2007- Jan 2010 is 3 years, plus the 5-7 years of additional support. Just because XP was around for so long (October 2001- Jan 2007) doesn't mean that has been the history of all Microsoft products. XP had an unusually long lifespan compared to any other MS product.

Exactly, XP lasted so much longer then every other OS made, people got so attached to it.

DOShell didn't last long, Windows3.1 only a few years.

Win95 only lasted 3 years, same with Win98.

WinME lasted what, two years?

Thats pretty retarded, Vista hasn't even overtook XP yet.
