HD4850 better be worth it!

Thread Starter
I just ordered an HD4850... will it be worth it?

Cost:
$200 (& possibly my life if the wife finds out)

Will it be all its crack up to be?
(Look I am coming from an 8600gt -notice not gts)

800 Streaming Processors that is insane!

So what kind of 3DMark06 score do you think I should expect to see (If I live long enough to see them)?

Added these questions (Copied from later post)
Ok so this will be my first ATI in years... I need to know:

1. what driver to use?
2. where to get the driver?
3. will ATI Tool work in Vista (find max feature)?
4. what is CCC (I am guessing the Catalist Utility but guessing)?
5. Basically what do I need to know about ATI? I saw the guides but they are 3 years old or better.

Thanks again guys,

PS here is what I got:

8600GT to 4850 = Huge leap

Just watch your temps.
4850 + X2 6400 is alot of heat.
Make sure you have good case cooling (exhaust).
Good luck with your card, you'll be amazed at the difference.

Currently I have a Side Case Fan blowing dirrectly ontop of the GPU... I assume I will keep this setup. I hope it will run within acceptable range.

I'm sure your 3dmark06 score will increase dramatically coming from an 8600GT, but mine was an actual decrease from my 8800GTS G92. Went from around a 15,800 range to a 13,500 range with the 4850.

Then again, this isn't a bench queen card. It is a marked improvement over the 8800 GTS in games though. Best bang for the buck I've experienced in years!

Start working up the divorce papers buddy (or at least find a nice burial plot for yourself)!

you made a great purchase! the card looks really good and should blow an 8600gt out of the water. you better hide the credit card statement when it comes in lol
