HD4850 better be worth it! - Page 2

Ok so this will be my first ATI in years... I need to know:

1. what driver to use?
2. where to get the driver?
3. will ATI Tool work in Vista (find max feature)?
4. what is CCC (I am guessing the Catalist Utility but guessing)?
5. Basically what do I need to know about ATI? I saw the guides but they are 3 years old or better.

Thanks again guys,

PS here is what I got:

Just get the newest drivers, it's the catalyst 8.6 with hotfix.

You get it from *gasp* www.ati.com

CCC is Catalyst Control Centre, ATI Tool should work with it I havn't overclocked my card yet though.

What do you need to know?

hmm... well as soon as new drivers come out, always update. ATI drivers usually give you huge performance boosts.

1. 8.6 Driver with the hotfix
2. http://support.ati.com/ics/support/d...estionID=35298
3. Its like a hit and miss for it to work in Vista due to Driver Signature or something like that. But nonetheless you can still run it for stabily to your OC gpu.
4. Catalyst Control Center is ATI's version of the equivalent Nvidia Control Panel to adjust your video card. Also has ATI Overdrive on it to OC your gpu.
5. Not sure what this question is referring to

let me have some of what your taking please you seen what the guy on the first page said downgrade from an 8800 gts, he lost a couple of thousand points in 3dmark but I know some of you guys dont care about it but I wonder how the rest of the benchmarks are like, what kind of fps is he getting with actual game play etc etc. If I where him I would return the card and get at least a 4870.

Right now the 4850 seems to be lagging in 3dmark06 but the real world performance is insane!

I play grid absolutely maxed, 8xAA, everything completely maxed and I cannot, no matter how hard I try make it jumpy. I run Age of Conan maxed with 4xAA. I can finally play ArmA on high (trust me it's a biggy)
