Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 VS Realtek ALC882D 7.1 On Board Sound

Thread Starter

Hi guys, I built a computer not too long ago, and I have a hard time trying to decide which is the better sound driver. I have an older Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1 PCI card, and I don't know if I should keep it instead of using the my Foxcoon C51XEM2AA-8EKRS2H on board driver, which is the 7.1+2 channel, Realtek ALC882D (HDA). The product information are here:

Creative Live! 5.1
or

Motherboard Realtek Driver

Thanks a lot for your help.

For the old creative live card would more likely take some stress away from the CPU but the quality of sound my drop a bit as it is an old card. X-Fi cards sound nice btw with their drivers

I'm willing to bet the Sound Blaster Live! card will be better. Not only will it improve the sound quality, but it will offload any sound processing that your CPU is currently doing. But your best bet would be to install the card and then try switching back and forth from the Creative card to the onboard to compare the two.

Oh btw, welcome to OCN.

The Live! card is better even for its age.
